Initial settings Main Jet - no adjustment possible on more current models due to EPA regulations (see green epoxy in image above). check the video below for more information - If you have an adjustable main jet please see: WYK Carburetor Adjustment idle speed - engine should idle just below clutch engagement (it will "ding" occasionally) mixture screw ~2.5 - 3.5 turns out
the stock carburetor is most easily adjusted at idle
1. perform the above adjustments after warming up the bike
2. at idle turn mixture screw in until you notice a slight drop in engine speed and then turn it out 1/4 of a turn (NOTE: during the break-in process this should be 1/2 turn out)
3. Additional adjustment - ride the bike paying attention to takeoff power. - if it bogs turn out further 1/4 turn at a time, if it stumbles turn in 1/8 until it quits stumbling.
Note: steps 2 and 3 are contradictory and you will not be able to reach the full speed potential of the bike due to it running too rich. this is the nature of the stock carburetor. It will never reach a proper tune due to the fixed nature of the main jet.
